This approval ensures that they meet strict requirements regarding environmental impact, health and safety, and the origin of raw materials. These materials are listed in the COSMOS database of approved raw materials.

A raw material compliant with the COSMOS standard may be used in the production of:

• COSMOS Natural cosmetics
• COSMOS Organic cosmetics

The term “COSMOS Approved Raw Material” means that:

• the cosmetic raw material (ingredient) has been approved for use in cosmetics certified according to the COSMOS standard and meets requirements concerning:
  
  • natural origin or an acceptable source,
  • safe and environmentally friendly (“green”) processing methods,
  • the absence of prohibited substances (e.g., GMOs).

For specifically approved ingredients, the COSMOS database can be searched to identify verified manufacturers and access detailed information on the composition and status of individual components.
